With back-to-school season approaching, Joplin Parks and Recreation has announced the end of the 2025 season schedule for its aquatic centers.
The Cunningham Aquatic Center’s last day of operation is Sunday, August 3. The Schifferdecker Aquatic Center will remain open through Sunday, August 10.
“These closures are necessary due to a significant and unavoidable reduction in our lifeguard staffing,” said Dawn Jones, Recreation Coordinator. “The first weeks of August mark the return of college students to their dorms and the start of intense practices for high school sports and band programs. The vast majority of our lifeguards are involved in these activities, making it impossible to maintain the safe staffing levels required to keep the pools open.”
