The Independent Living Center (TILC) in Joplin, MO, is proud to announce it has been awarded a $9,360 FY25 Urgent Needs Grant from Ozarks Food Harvest to support its on-site food pantry. These funds will be used to purchase a new double-door refrigerator and a commercial-grade freezer—essential upgrades that will allow TILC to safely store and distribute more perishable items such as dairy, fresh produce, and frozen meats. This equipment will significantly increase the pantry’s capacity to serve individuals and families who rely on its resources during times of need.
Since last summer, TILC has distributed food to over 1,543 individuals and 785 families. As part of its mission to support individuals with disabilities in living independently and with dignity, the pantry operates under an open-door policy—providing food to anyone in need, no questions asked. These new appliances will allow TILC to keep more nutritious food in stock and reduce waste, especially during the hottest and coldest months when food safety is most critical.
With the help of Ozarks Food Harvest, TILC is better equipped to continue meeting a growing demand while improving the quality and variety of food offered. This investment not only benefits those directly served by the pantry but also strengthens the broader community by promoting food security and health. As long as there is food to give, The Independent Living Center will be here to give it — and now, with more resources to do so effectively.
