Joplin Public Library Announces Special 2025 Summer Performances

The all-ages Summer Reading Program is in full swing at Joplin Public Library! Over 1,000 people have signed up to participate in the program themed “Color Our World” and there’s still time for more through July 20! While programs are ongoing, performances are just getting started, with Will Stuck’s “Pigment of Your Imagination” and storytelling workshop scheduled for Friday, June 13!

The JPL Summer Reading Program is a free program designed to keep the public reading, learning, and creating all summer. Along with earning prizes for logging reading time, the Library will be hosting fun, educational, and theme-based events. Summer events include many of the Library’s regular programs, and a variety of special events for children, teens, and adults. Find the comprehensive calendar of activities here.

The list includes storyteller Sue Godsey, musician Will Parker, Mad Science of Greater Kansas City, and more!  Teens will have several chances to connect and be creative this summer. Programs include a comics workshop by Do Art Productions, Thrifted Art Night, and a nature escape room hosted by Shoal Creek Conservation and Education Center. Plus, traditional offerings of chess and anime/manga will remain on the slate of events. Adults also have the opportunity to join in programs, some of which include gardening classes and Chat & Craft, among others! The Library will also host several multigenerational programs, including a sing-along movie night and an art night, several tween activities and more.

No Library card is required to participate in the Summer Reading Program; however, for the fourth year, the Joplin Public Library is extending the offer of a free Summer Reading Library card to everyone! You may check out physical items from the Library including books, DVDs, and more – AND – you can use the card to access our digital resources May 27–July 20. As always, Joplin Public Library cards are always free for in-city residents of Joplin, simply bring a recent piece of mail and your photo ID to the Library to register.
