Mercy Hospital Pittsburg Recognized with Top Patient Safety Grade

Mercy hospitals in four states receive A grades

PITTSBURG, Kan. (May 8, 2025) – Mercy Hospital Pittsburg has earned its third straight A grade for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog. Mercy Hospital Pittsburg was among the top 32% of hospitals nationwide to earn this distinction.

“Our caregivers don’t do their jobs with the goal of earning awards, but at the same time, it’s always gratifying to see the excellent care they provide recognized, especially by independent, third-party evaluators like The Leapfrog Group,” said Janelle Wade, executive director of nursing.

Leapfrog rates hospitals on an A-F grading scale after reviewing more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“Achieving an A Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Mercy, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”

Nine additional Mercy hospitals have earned the highest rating including Ada, Ardmore, Fort Smith, Jefferson, Lebanon, Northwest Arkansas, Oklahoma City, Springfield and Washington.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
