(Joplin, MO) – Downtown Joplin Alliance (DJA) will hold their annual Volunteer Expo event on Saturday, April 19, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the Empire Market (931 E 4th St). This event is intended for existing volunteers and also for those who want to get involved with the organization and the downtown community but are not quite sure where to start. Plus, attendees can enjoy all the Empire Market has to offer, including delicious prepared food from Render BBQ and Downtown Burgers!
Visitors will gather together at the Empire Market to learn about the structure of Downtown Joplin Alliance in general and all the ways that individuals can volunteer. The format will include:
- An introduction to DJA (their mission, their strategies, their Board, etc.)
- An introduction to Main Street Method and the Four Points (economic vitality, design, promotions, organization)
- Exploring all the programming options that DJA offers, like Clean Team, Empire Market, Downtown Now, Third Thursday, Market Gardens, Endangered Properties Program, WineShare, Downtown Holiday Experience, Night Markets, and more.
If you’re a current volunteer, DJA challenges you to bring a friend to the expo to show them all the ways they can get involved.
This year, the Expo is occurring during the Empire Market day, and visitors can also participate in our annual Market Egg Hunt! Throughout the day, kids and adults alike can search through the market to find hidden eggs — return the eggs to the info booth to claim a variety of small treats! A lucky few golden eggs can be redeemed for debit tokens that can be used for merchandise at any vendor booth. There will also be coloring pages for children and a spring-themed photo booth will be available for self-guided photos. This event is free to participate in.
The Empire Market is Joplin’s only four-season farmers market. Come for our events, but stay for for the farm fresh produce, eggs, pastured meat, honey, baked goods, prepared food (like fresh spring rolls and mocktails!), and handcrafted artisan goods. Everything sold here is grown or made by the vendors themselves. You can’t get more fresh and local than the Empire Market!
