Missouri Southern State University to Relocate KGCS-TV Broadcast Transmitter to Campus

University station to temporarily go off-air during equipment move

The Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) television station, KGCS-TV, will soon begin transmitting from a new location. A broadcast tower on the university’s campus will be the official home to the transmitter, which will enhance accessibility for monitoring and maintenance. The tower was put in place in 1988 on the MSSU campus, but the transmitter has been located off-campus since that time.

To complete the transition, KGCS-TV will temporarily go off air beginning April 22 for several days while the equipment is moved from its current location.

“This move will really allow us to reallocate resources toward initiatives that will enhance the student experience,” said Lisa Green, KGCS-TV General Manager.

KGCS-TV programming is available over-the-air on channel 21 with an antenna and continues to be accessible through local cable providers including Sparklight, Mediacom, and Suddenlink Communications. The transmitter move is not expected to affect cable broadcasts.

During the brief off-air period, viewers can continue to enjoy popular KGCS-TV programming, such as NewsmakersBehind the BandsWindow on the World, band concerts, and more by visiting the station’s YouTube channel, KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS-TV operates as a part of the Department of Communication at MSSU, providing educational programming and hands-on experience for students.
