2025 Historic Preservation Awards Ceremony Set for May 1; Still Time to Submit Nominations

The Historic Preservation Commission of the City of Joplin welcomes the public to attend the 2025 Joplin Historic Preservation Awards Ceremony. It will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 in the lobby of the Frisco Station Lofts, 601 S. Main Street in Joplin.

There is still time to make nominations in the various categories. The deadline is 5:00 pm on Friday, April 18. Anyone may nominate any individual, entity, or group eligible for one of three awards: The Leslie Simpson Award, The Jeff & Carolina Neal Award, or The Murphysburg Award. Details about these categories are listed below.

  • The Leslie Simpson Award – Awarded to an individual who has made significant contributions to historic preservation in Joplin by way of preservation administration, education, events, outreach, planning, research, or service.
  • The Jeff & Carolina Neal Award – Awarded to people who have made significant developments to historic preservation in Joplin by way of developing and restoring/revitalizing buildings and property within Joplin’s commercial corridors.
  • The Murphysburg Award – Awarded to groups or organizations who have made significant contributions to historic preservation in Joplin by way of improving our historic neighborhoods through community engagement or rehabilitation of a historic home.
