Forvis Mazars Releases 2025 State of the Nonprofit Sector Report

In a year of economic uncertainty, obstacles to attracting and retaining talent, and urgent societal issues, nonprofits have risen tot he moment by creating positive change.

Forvis Mazars‘ 2025 State of the Nonprofit Sector Report details the challenges that nonprofit organizations face and how they’re addressing these concerns. Based on data from more than 230 nonprofit professionals across the U.S., their report found:

  • Almost half of nonprofits lack sufficient funds to deliver their programs and services.
  • Contributions from individuals decreased more than any other source of revenue.
  • More than three out of four organizations report difficulty recruiting senior leaders.
  • About two-thirds of nonprofits do not have a leadership mentoring program.
  • The number of organizations with staffing shortages has decreased by 15% in the past two years.
