(Joplin, MO) – This month, the Wildcat Glades Nature Group, along with other partners, will host a Preschool Connections program, a class on creating water filters, and a Nature Explorers program. They will also continue work on their Habitat Restoration project along with trails at Wildcat Park.
Wildcat Park Habitat Restoration Initiative & KCU Student Trail Initiative
Various dates throughout the month | Ongoing project – check Facebook page for workday schedule
Wildcat Glades Nature Group, in partnership with Missouri Southern State University (MSSU), continues to have work days to remove invasive species out at Wildcat Park. Invasive species are detrimental to native plants and wildlife in the Park. Removing the invasive species provides better habitat for plants and animals, and in turn, benefits us. The Restoration Plan is an ongoing project that will be carried out over the next ten years. The work days are completed by Wildcat volunteers, representatives from MSSU, and Wildcat staff. Workdays are held every other Thursday during the Winter.
The Kansas City University’s Students for a Sustainable Future organization spend every other Saturday at Wildcat Park working on the trails. These future medical professionals have worked with Wildcat Glades volunteers to remove invasive plant species from the trails, removed graffiti off various surfaces, cleaned up trash, and much more. They have become a staple for the volunteer workforce that keeps Wildcat Park clean for all to enjoy. We are grateful for all the hard work the KCU students and our volunteers have put in.

Bats may get a bad rap, but in reality, they’re integral to the world as we know it. You won’t want to miss the debut of this brand new program!

Please bring a yoga mat or a towel, a reusable water bottle, and your best “ohhmm” voice. Yoga is very beneficial for children’s health and is even better when enjoyed in the great outdoors.

What do you wish for when you blow a dandelion? Here at Wildcat, we’re wishing that you’ll come learn with us! Even though they’re sometimes called a weed, dandelions are incredible flowers that provide an easy food source for insects, bees, rabbits, and even — sometimes — humans. Join Wildcat’s own Miss Vicki as she reads The Dandelion Seed by Joseph Anthony, sings a song, and does a family-friendly craft that’ll blow you away!
Reserve a spot for your littles by clicking here or emailing colvin@wildcatglades.org to reserve their spots.
Nature Explorers: Native Pollinator Plants
Friday, April 18 | 6:00 to 7:00 pm | Ages seven to 14 | Free to attend | Wildcat Glades Education Cottage
April’s here, that means it’s time to spring into action and learn about pollination! Even though Missouri’s pollinators and the native plants they pollinate are an integral part of our ecosystem, they’re often overlooked, but we here at Wildcat Glades say it’s time to change that. Come learn about our native plants and the pollinators that sustain them at this month’s Nature Explorers!
You must pre-register for this event by visiting the Wildcat Glades Facebook page, clicking here, or emailing colvin@wildcatglades.org.
