Stephanee Schiding, master instructor and lifetime wellness coordinator in Missouri Southern State University’s (MSSU) kinesiology department, was awarded MOSHAPE’s Dr. Robert M. Taylor Professional Service Honor Award.

The Missouri Society of Health and Physical Educators (MOSHAPE) is a statewide organization of current and future professionals promoting quality health and physical education. Annually, the Dr. Robert M. Taylor Professional Service Honor Award is given to teachers of physical education, dance, health, and recreation who have significantly contributed to the Society and the profession. Schiding was one of four recipients in the state to receive this award in 2024.

“I’m naturally a service-oriented person,” Schiding said. “I always do my best to help others in every way I can. While I certainly never expected to receive this award, it does mean a great deal to know that my actions have not gone unnoticed.”

Schiding previously served as a MOSHAPE board member and presents at the annual convention every few years. She has also been awarded other honors, such as MSSU Physical Education Student of the Year as well as MOSHAPE’s Young Professional Award and Southwest District Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.

“Because we are all part of the same team, I believe every award or accolade received shines brightly on the university,” said Schiding. “I work in an awesome department with fantastic people. We help each other out daily.”

Dr. Andrea Cullers, department chair of the kinesiology department, shares her pride in Schiding for her dedication.

“We are so proud of Stephanee for winning this award,” she said. “She is the best of the best when it comes to teaching and advising future physical educators. As a department chair, I love seeing her being recognized for all her hard work and her passion for the profession.”

The award also demonstrates the excellent educators at MSSU.

“Students respect and adore her and frequently comment that she is one of the best professors they have at MSSU,” Cullers said. “The kinesiology department is so lucky to have her—she is a phenomenal teacher and advisor.”
