In response to stress in rural communities, the University of Missouri Extension is offering Youth Mental Health First Aid Training on Thursday, January 20 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.
This online training will teach participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adolescents ages 12 to 18. You’ll build skills and confidence to reach out and provide initial support to help young people who are struggling and learn how to help connect them to the appropriate support.
After this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges in youth.
- Understand how to interact with a young person in crisis.
- Know how to connect a young person with help.
- Better understand trauma, substance use, self-care, and the impact of social media and bullying.
This course requires advanced registration. Participants must complete two hours of self-paced training at least three days prior to the course date.
The virtual portion of the course is a small group interactive training via Zoom. Participants should be prepared to be present and actively engaged for the whole course.
