(Joplin, MO) – Through a joint effort between the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau (staff), the Post Art Library (Jill Halbach), Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) historians (Brad Belk and Dr. Chad Stebbins), and the Joplin History & Mineral Museum (Chris Wiseman), Joplin has a new History Guide.
Patrick Tuttle, CVB Director, says, “Information on Joplin’s history is an item our guests are constantly asking for. The Guide is a brief glance at Joplin’s History, not an all-inclusive history book.”
The sections include Sites and structures, People, Cemeteries, Buildings and Sites (gone but not forgotten), Joplin’s National Register, Architecture Interests, and a brief account of the 2011 Tornado. This new guide replaces the 2017 edition. Tuttle stated, “Since we are nearly out of the previous edition, this allowed us an opportunity to revise the content and images.”
The Joplin History Guide is available to the public at the Joplin Visitors Center (first floor of City Hall), the Joplin History & Mineral Museum, and the Post Art Library within the Joplin Public Library.
Funding for this project is within the CVB’s annual budget.
