(Joplin, MO) – Holiday events have been in full swing in downtown Joplin, including the Holiday Decorating Competition. This annual competition is organized by Downtown Joplin Alliance, and is designed to adorn the downtown area with Christmas cheer and bring the community to Main Street and its adjoining streets during the holiday season. This year’s participants included 22 businesses across the district. All were encouraged to decorate in the style of this year’s theme, Retro Christmas. Four winners were awarded trophies and bragging rights in the following categories:
- Best Use of Theme (Retro Christmas) – Jonathan Leach Keller Williams Agency (521 S. Main St.)
- Best Use of Lights – Alchemist Haven (1331 E. 4th St.)
- Most Creative – Urban Escape Salon & Spa (107 W. 2nd St.)
- People’s Choice – Christman Lofts (501 S. Main St.)
The award ceremony was held on Friday, December 20 in the lobby of City Hall.
Lori Haun, Director of Downtown Joplin Alliance, states, “We love to see the creative ways our businesses participate every year — this year’s competition might be over, but it’s never too early to start dreaming about next year!”
Holiday displays will remain visible throughout the coming weeks for the public’s enjoyment.
