Ozark Christian College to Cancel Class for ‘Serve our City’ Day on September 12

(Joplin, MO) – On most Thursday mornings at Ozark Christian College (OCC), you’ll find hundreds of students in classrooms across campus. But on Thursday, September 12, 1111 N. Main will stand empty as students put their ministry preparation into practice.

Around 45 organizations in the Joplin area have signed on to have over 500 students and employees help with yard work, painting, organizing, cleaning, and more in a day the college calls “Serve Our City.”

“We’re excited to encourage others in the good work they’re doing to serve our city,” said OCC Executive Vice President Damien Spikereit, “and we’re grateful for the opportunity to live out our motto as a college — ‘not to be served, but to serve.’”

Projects will be held at dozens of locations around Joplin and surrounding communities, including the Salvation Army of Jasper and Newton Counties, Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Four States, and more.
