Swimmers in Joplin will have two locations to visit this summer with both Schifferdecker and Cunningham Aquatic Centers open for the season. In addition, Joplin Parks and Recreation staff has announced new Family Swim dates to provide more options in visiting the aquatic centers.
Family Swim is held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and will be offered on the following dates and locations:
- Friday, June 7 at Cunningham Pool and Schifferdecker Pool
- Wednesday, June 12 at Schifferdecker Pool
- Sunday, June 16 at Cunningham Pool and Schifferdecker Pool
- Friday, June 28 at Cunningham Pool
- Wednesday, July 3 at Cunningham Pool and Schifferdecker Pool
- Sunday, July 7 at Cunningham Pool and Schifferdecker Pool
- Friday, July 26 at Cunningham Pool
- Sunday, July 28 at Cunningham Pool and Schifferdecker Pool
- Tuesday, August 6 at Cunningham Pool and Schifferdecker Pool
- Friday, August 16 at Cunningham Pool and Schifferdecker Pool
Family Swim is geared towards families who may work during the day but would like to spend time at the pool together. Parks staff extend pool hours to accommodate busy people so they can spend quality time with their families. Family Swim is held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Admission prices are the same as normal business hours.
Both facilities are open seven days a week, through Sunday, August 18. Hours are 1:00 to 6:00 pm with extended hours to 8:00 pm noted for Family Swim as listed above.
Schifferdecker Aquatic Center is located at 4th and Schifferdecker with a $6 admission for visitors ages 15 and under and $7 for visitors 16 years old and over. Cunningham Aquatic Center is at 24th and Maiden Lane within Cunningham Park. Admission to Cunningham is $5 for visitors aged 15 and under and $6 for visitors 16 and over. At either of the pools, children aged two and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
The Parks & Recreation Department also sells season swim passes. They are available to purchase at Joplin Athletic Complex, 3301 W. 1st Street, Joplin. Scholarships are available to those who qualify.
