(Joplin, MO) – Joplin Empire Market is celebrating their sixth Birthday Bash this month!
The event will be held on Saturday, April 27, during normal market hours from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Attendees can sign a market birthday card, feast on cake supplied by Blissful Bites, and play with little goats and Willow the bunny.
Visitors to the Birthday Bash will get to witness the unveiling of the new and improved Big Yellow Rocking Chair, the icon of the Empire Market. The old chair had deteriorated due to weather and improperly treated wood, amongst other factors, and needed replacing due to safety concerns. From Giving Tuesday in November through the winter, generous donors at the market gave amounts both large and small to allows the chair to be fully rebuilt by a master craftsman. Visitors are encouraged to take a birthday photo in the chair!
A small greenhouse built by YVC volunteers and Empire Market’s own master gardeners will be raffled off during the event — come in early to get your entry in — delivery is included!
Limited edition merch will be available beginning on April 27 in celebration of the market’s birthday, including a “Locally Grown” onesie and a t-shirt featuring some of Downtown Joplin’s most significant historic buildings. Merch featuring the new big yellow chair will be available for pre-order.
Visitors can shop all three market halls, with fresh produce, pastured meat, artisan goods, coffee from Cottage Small Coffee Roasters, live music from Vagabond Grove, and ready-to-eat food all available. A photo booth will be set up for customers to visit.
