Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School (TJIDS) is proud to announce two members of the Debate Team have qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament.
Two Juniors and debate partners, Layton Green and Jeanna Jeyaraj, qualified to compete at the NSDA National Tournament this past weekend at the NSDA District Tournament, where they placed first in Public Forum.
Over 6,000 students from across the country will compete at the NSDA National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, June 15–20.
TJIDS Debate coach David Harris shared how big of an accomplishment qualifying for nationals is for his team during the school’s first year as an NSDA member.
“We’re thrilled to end our inaugural year as an NSDA school by sending qualifiers to nationals, a first in the history of Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School. We’re a relatively small and young team, and it has taken a lot of work on the part of the students to compete at this level,” said Harris.
He went on to applaud Green and Jeyaraj for their hard work and commitment to the TJIDS Debate Team.
“Layton and Jeanna have worked extraordinarily hard over the past three years and are the two students who have spearheaded the growth of our Debate program more than anyone else. It is only fitting that they be the first two students to represent Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School at the national competition,” said Harris.
The NSDA will provide information on how to watch the tournament closer to the event. For more information, visit their website.
