(Joplin, MO) – The Creative Learning Alliance is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in their mission to engage people of all ages in hands-on, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) based learning that is driven by curiosity and play. They have purchased the former Joplin Public Library, located at 300 S. Main Street, that will serve as the future home of the as yet unnamed science center. This acquisition marks a pivotal moment in their commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and knowledge in our region.
The new building boasts space that will be dedicated to open exploration, play, and learning for the families of the region, offering a vast canvas for the creation of an innovative and immersive science center. This facility will also enable expansion of educational programming, introduce regular open hours, and host birthday parties and field trips, making science more accessible and engaging for people of all ages.
“We are excited to embark on this new chapter in our journey and to inspire and educate future generations of scientists, engineers, and innovators,” said Neely Myers, the Creative Learning Alliance’s Executive Director. “This new building represents not only a physical expansion but also a commitment to feeding the natural thirst of children and families for knowledge and exploration.” Myers added, “The acquisition of this new building has been made possible through the generous support of donors and partners who share the vision of the Creative Learning Alliance. Without their unwavering commitment to STEAM education, none of this would be possible. We are in the early stages of planning the transformation of this building into a vibrant science center and downtown attraction, and we invite our community to join us on this exciting journey. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and opportunities to get involved.”
Key highlights of the upcoming Science Center include:
- Interactive Exhibits: The science center will feature hands-on, interactive exhibits covering a wide range of STEAM disciplines.
- Educational Programs: A diverse array of educational programs, playshops, and events designed to spark curiosity and passion for STEAM among children, students, and adults will be scheduled.
