One Joplin Announces 2023 Children’s Literacy Resource Drive

Literacy affects every aspect of a child’s future, including their employment potential. On average, a low-income household has between zero and three age-appropriate books for children. One Joplin’s Literacy Team is on a mission to change that statistic for Joplin households.

But the One Joplin Literacy Team needs the community’s participation to do this. They need your help gathering supplies to support early childhood and youth literacy. Donated items will be used in Parents as Teachers home visits, and books will be distributed to area families with information about children and adult literacy resources. They are looking for the following items:

  • New or gently used books for children or teens
  • Dry erase books to practice writing letters and numerals
  • Crayons
  • Washable markers
  • Dry erase markers
  • Stickers
  • Shoe Strings
  • Pencil grips
  • Blank reward charts
  • Golf pencils
  • Sidewalk chalk
  • Bubbles
  • Children’s scissors
  • Play-Doh
  • Lacing beads
  • Foam shaving cream

Interested individuals can also purchase new items directly from One Joplin’s Amazon Wish List and choose to have them shipped to Joplin Parents as Teachers. You can bring any of the items listed above to one of the following drop-off sites:

Items will be collected throughout the month of May.
