Local children’s book author and illustrator Isaiah Basye, known as Izzy B., usually writes books like A Tighty-Whitie Wind and A Teacher in the Wild with silly and fun themes. But his latest project is a book that is near and dear to his heart, centering on a sweet story where a dad teaches his son to value the time they are given as they fish.
“Last year we lost my dad. He was an amazing man. I wanted to write a book dedicated to the lessons my dad taught me while growing up,” Basye wrote on a fundraising webpage for the book. “He often took me fishing. During our trips my dad always taught me valuable life lessons on enjoying nature, valuing the company of others, and that just being in the great outdoors is a gift.”
The book, titled When I Caught You, will honor Basye’s late father and is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign that is meant to cover the costs of printing the finest quality books possible. Book pre-orders are also available, with portions of those purchases going to Peterson Outdoors, a veteran-focused nonprofit that was near and dear to Basye’s father.
