(Joplin, MO) – Voters in Joplin go to the polls on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 to elect their city council members.
To help voters learn more about those running for city council seats, Missouri Southern State University’s broadcast television station, KGCS-TV, will feature a forum with the candidates. The program will air at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29 with KGCS General Manager, Bobbie Pottorff, serving as the moderator of the program.
KGCS will broadcast the program live from the Joplin City Council Chambers. The public is welcome to attend. The City of Joplin will also stream the program live on its website, www.joplinmo.org. If you’re unable to watch live, KGCS will post the forum on its YouTube channel, as well as air it again at 6:00 pm on March 30, March 31, and April 3.
Eight candidates have filed for the council. There are five candidates for three general seats: incumbent Doug Lawson, Josh DeTar, Brian Evans, Kate Spencer, and Jon Thomas Buck.
Two candidates are running for the Zone 4 seat: incumbent Diane Reid Adams and challenger Mark Farnham. Incumbent Gary Show is unopposed for reelection in Joplin’s Zone 1. Citizens vote in all races, regardless of which zone they reside in.
