(Joplin, MO) – On Tuesday, November 10 at 3:30 pm, the Joplin High School’s JROTC – Eagle Battalion will conduct a presentation of the American flag and decorate the graves of over a dozen veterans who are buried at Peace Church Cemetery.
Last month, the cadets and their leadership helped Peace Church Cemetery Association volunteers during the annual fall workday. They then asked if they could place American flags on the veteran headstones to commemorate their service on Veteran’s Day.
Jim Beeler, President of the group that maintains the historic cemetery, said, “The cadets are paying tribute to veterans from the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I and II, and Korea. We appreciate their act of service and hope to see our partnership with the Joplin JROTC grow.”
People who would like to pay their respects are welcome to attend the JROTC flag ceremony on Tuesday or visit the cemetery for Veteran’s Day on Wednesday, November 11 from dawn to dusk. The gravestone decorations will remain in the cemetery for several days afterwards.
