Lafayette House Spotlights Sexual Assault Awareness Month with Denim Day

(Joplin, MO)Lafayette House is encouraging individuals to wear denim on April 27, 2022 in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an annual campaign observed in April to raise awareness about sexual assault and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.

The Denim Day campaign began in 1999 following the decision made by an Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the survivor was wearing at the time of the attack, so it must have been consensual. On this day of action and awareness, individuals are encouraged to wear denim to combat victim-blaming and educate others about sexual violence. Wearing denim on April 27 is a symbol of protest and solidarity against the misconceptions that surround sexual assault.

Lafayette House encourages businesses/individuals to wear denim on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 and to post a photo on social media. Please tag Lafayette House of Joplin, Mo and include the hashtag #saam.
