2020 Arvest Foundation Grants Totaled More Than $230,000 in the Joplin Region

(Joplin, MO) – We are pleased to announce that the Arvest Foundation funded more than 40 grants totaling $232,500 to organizations serving Joplin and its surrounding communities in 2020. The additional communities served were Carthage, Lamar, Lockwood, Monett, Nevada, Neosho and Webb City, as well as Miami, Oklahoma, and Pittsburg, Kansas.

“We are blessed to have an amazing group of organizations in our area that meet the needs of our citizens in so many ways,” said Chad Evans, president for Arvest Bank in Joplin. “These groups steadfastly go about their mission, often unseen and unheard until the need arises, when they show up to help. Emergency shelter, food insecurity, health needs, quality of life opportunities, and support for our students and children are just a few of the issues that our not-for-profit organizations address each and every year.”

“In a year like 2020, when so many were unable to hold fundraising activities, talk with potential donors face-to-face, or even serve directly, the need did not diminish. It is the honor of the Arvest Foundation to be able to continue to support these quality organizations in fulfilling their mission, even in the toughest of times.”

Grants are based on recommendations from local Arvest leadership and the use of these grants varies depending on the organizations need, as evidenced by the Mercy Health Foundation, which received a $5,000 Arvest Foundation grant. The grant was used to help patients combating cancer.

“In these times, especially, this generous gift was ever so appreciated by the cancer care team at Mercy and we thank the Arvest Foundation for it,” said Whit Sanders, executive director of cancer services at Mercy Hospital Joplin. “These funds were used to provide patients nutritional supplements and transportation assistance. Proper nutrition is very important in the treatment of cancer. The effort and expense of getting to and from appointments can be overwhelming for some patients, so, in addition to supplementing the patient’s nutrition, we used this grant for travel assistance with gas cards and trolley tokens for patients with transportation needs both from Joplin and the surrounding communities.”
