(Joplin, MO) – The Kiwanis Club of Joplin, in collaboration with Joplin Regional Artists Coalition, Connect2Culture, and Spiva Center for the Arts, is hosting the sixth annual Joplin Arts Fest. The event will begin on Friday, September 18 at noon and will close on Monday, September 21 at noon. This year’s event will move to a virtual, digital format and will be hosted on the festival’s website joplinartsfest.com

Normally, the festival is an in-person event held at Mercy Park. But due to this year’s COVID-19 concerns, the Arts Fest committee decided to take a different approach to ensure that the festival could continue, and to allow participating artists to have a platform to showcase their works.

“The planning committee believed it was in the best interest of the artists and those that would be attending the festival to cancel this year’s in-person Joplin Arts Fest,” says committee co-chair Steve Doerr. “We strongly believe that the Virtual Online Joplin Arts Fest is the best alternative for this year.”

Thirty-plus artists from eight states will participate in the online event by posting photos and information about five to ten pieces of their artwork on the Arts Fest website. The public will be able to purchase items through the website. Items purchased will be available for pickup by, or shipment to, purchasers after the festival closes.

A wide variety of artistic mediums will be represented, including, fiber, jewelry, painting, woodworking, and ceramics.

Funds raised through the festival will be used to support a variety of Kiwanis Club of Joplin’s youth-related programs.
