George Washington Carver National Monument Remains Open

George Washington Carver National Monument remains open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. Visitors may walk the trail and enjoy the natural world that the young Carver explored. The park rangers are presenting weekend programs on the grounds.

As the number of confirmed COVID cases rise dramatically in our area, the park’s Visitor Center will remain closed until the trend turns downward. This is done with public safety as our highest priority. We will keep our visitors informed on Facebook, as well as media releases.

When we do reopen the Visitor Center, it will be under a phased operations plan with a few restrictions. There will initially be an occupancy limit of ten, and the visitor reception area, museum and bookstore will be open. The small theater and Discovery Area will remain closed temporarily. We are also recommending that visitors wear face coverings, although not requiring them.

The in-park Carver Day is postponed this year, due to the concerns about large gatherings and the difficulty in social distancing. However, the park will instead offer a virtual Carver Day on our Facebook  from July 11-14. The virtual Carver Day commemorates the establishment of the park on July 14, 1943 with historic and recent photos of the celebration, along with videos of past Carver Day speakers and performing artists.

In addition, we are thrilled to be partnering with MSSU who will also broadcast videos of past Carver Days on KGCS. Please join us on Facebook for the virtual Carver Day, and warm thanks to Judy Stiles, Bill Hunt and the staff and faculty at MSSU for also supporting the event on KGCS.
